The One Cruising Down Ocean Drive
When you think Miami, what do you think of? Everyone thinks of the same things. One of those would be the Art Deco buildings, the neon lights and the gorgeous cars giving bikini clad girls a lift to a club.
Well, I can report that it is all true. Its not very often that you get the feeling that you have just stepped into a movie or television show. There is a whole lot of eye candy on show for all people. Beautiful architecture. Stunning collectable cars. Clubs with ridiculously good looking people that would most likely melt if in direct sunlight (No, I am not talking about vampires). Ocean Drive in South Beach, Miami has it all.
Is it a tourist trap? Of course it is! One of the most expensive areas of Miami, because it is THE place to be. A lot of people are here to get noticed. But I saw right through that, only seeing the gorgeous Ocean Drive.
Imagine the looks you would get driving down Ocean Drive in one of these gorgeous classic cars. I did, while driving our VW Passat.
The thing I love about Ocean Drive is that it is holding onto the traditional Art Deco lifestyle as well. Alfresco dining at every bar, café or restaurant on the strip should make for a relaxing afternoon people watching with your cocktail served in a real coconut… and it does. Even the waiter telling us “I learned to tango in Manchester, which is a suburb of London.” made us laugh a little longer and harder than his usual patron response. And you have your fingers crossed that you will see a celebrity or, at least, Flo Rida.
At night, Ocean Drive comes alive with even more colour. The neon lights! The beautiful buildings accented with bright rainbow colour that makes for a perfect postcard moment. Even with the happy hour alcohol in full effect, the buildings look great.
Ocean Drive in South Beach, Miami is a place that most people want to see in their lifetime. Luckily, I can now tick this famous street off my bucket list and enjoy remembering the energy that the place had, the fake beauty in the people and the natural beauty in the architecture.
