Probably the best rest stop I have stopped at

We have been driving across Norway and we are heading south toward Oslo, a long way from where we are. We cross yet another raging glacial river and we all say “WOW!”

Road trips are a great way to travel. I love being able to choose where you go and what you see. I’m driving and everyone else is pushing their faces hard up against the left-side windows. I can see a small part of the river we are crossing, but I am also marveling in the engineering of the bridge we are speeding across. Kim points and shouts that there is a slip road on the other side of the road at the end of the bridge. I quickly scan for traffic, there is one car in the distance. I swerve onto the opposite side of the road, slam on the brakes and enter the slip road much faster than intended. It turns out that I have entered the exit of a rest stop and narrowly miss a bollard hiding around the corner and behind the wrong way sign.

Everyone is confused as to what has just happened, but we have been driving for hours already and need a break. We park the car and when we open the doors all you can hear is an all mighty roar that Thor himself would be proud of.

The raging river is at the same level of the bridge we just crossed where it drops magnificently down and passes underneath the single arched bridge. The others tell me that while crossing the bridge, we were at eye level with this mighty foaming river.

We go exploring down to the waterfall at its base and then climb to the top. There is so much water flowing through this waterfall that if we fell in, we would never be seen again.

After seeing so much natural beauty in Norway already, I was incredibly surprised that I could still be blown away. Norway is a truly beautiful country, and it also had some great rest stops to appreciate the beauty.

When on a road trip, do you pull over at random places to check something out? Let me know in the comments.
